New Ambient Space Music Track: Birth Of A Distant Star

Ambient Space Music: Birth Of A Distant Star by Simon Wilkinson

Today I’ve released a new ambient space music track called Birth Of A Distant Star. The track is a 10 minute atmospheric instrumental ambient piece based around themes of star births, origins of the galaxy, space travel and epic interstellar imagery.

Full of atmospheric ambient textures and harmonically rich floating synth layers, the instrumental track would make ideal background music for space documentaries and feature films, astronomy time lapse films, art films, photo galleries or any video that calls for ethereal and highly textural audio, music and sound design.

The track is available to download and license here for use in your own films and videos and also on all popular music download sites like iTunes, Amazon, Spotify etc.

New 3D Graphics Video Featuring My Music Antarctica

Here’s a nice new video from 3D graphic artist Dylan Gauld featuring my atmospheric ambient music track Antarctica. Growth is the outcome of a year’s worth of Dylan’s collaboration with mathematicians to develop new ways of visualising mathematical models to predict the growth and development of cancer cells. More info can be found on Dylan’s website at www.dylangauld.co.uk

Antarctica is a 7 and a half minute ambient track of slowly evolving atmospheric organic soundscapes and minimal piano. You can download or license the track for use in your own film or documentary here:

Still Life Soundtrack By Rachel Portman

STILL LIFE - Official HD Trailer

A few days ago I had the belated pleasure of watching the 2013 film Still Life directed by Uberto Pasolini. The film stars the always brilliant Eddie Marsan as a council worker who tries to track down relatives of people who’ve died alone. It’s a very quiet subtle film and Eddie Marsan is amazing in his ability at being able to really hold and hang on to silence but still captivate your attention.

Rachel Portman - End Titles

One thing that really stood out and framed the whole thing perfectly was the beautiful score by British composer Rachel Portman.

The music is very delicate and haunting (you can hear the end titles in the video on the right) and it suits the melancholy emotional tone of the film perfectly.

Rachel Portman is an extremely talented and prolific composer having scored numerous films including The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, Never Let Me Go and Mike Leigh’s Four Days In July (in fact the score for Still Life reminded me at times of the soundtrack to Mike Leigh’s Naked, composed by Andrew Dickson and another one of my favourite film soundtracks).

The soundtrack for Still Life is available to download from iTunes here:

Screen Horror Film For Release On Vimeo On Demand

TRAILER FOR "SCREEN"

Screen is a great looking new horror film from David Paul Baker which features some of my music and is due for imminent release on Vimeo On Demand. The film is about a group of horror fans who are found dead in front of an old drive-in screen. We go back 24 hours to follow two of the characters from this group who discover people died at the drive-in back in the 70s and the screen is haunted… The movie was shot between Tulsa and Cleveland, Oklahoma and bristles with a style reminiscent of horror movies like Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween mixed with a classic grindhouse feel.

“Simultaneously reminiscent of Grindhouse Exploitation films and the new and old waves of “found footage” flicks, and with an opening newsreel sequence, and that kind of foreboding, Tubular Bells-ish music that just isn’t used in movies often enough anymore, SCREEN, directed by David Paul Baker is low-budget, self-sufficient Indie gold at it’s very best.”
