Still Life Soundtrack By Rachel Portman

STILL LIFE - Official HD Trailer

A few days ago I had the belated pleasure of watching the 2013 film Still Life directed by Uberto Pasolini. The film stars the always brilliant Eddie Marsan as a council worker who tries to track down relatives of people who’ve died alone. It’s a very quiet subtle film and Eddie Marsan is amazing in his ability at being able to really hold and hang on to silence but still captivate your attention.

Rachel Portman - End Titles

One thing that really stood out and framed the whole thing perfectly was the beautiful score by British composer Rachel Portman.

The music is very delicate and haunting (you can hear the end titles in the video on the right) and it suits the melancholy emotional tone of the film perfectly.

Rachel Portman is an extremely talented and prolific composer having scored numerous films including The Cider House Rules, Chocolat, Never Let Me Go and Mike Leigh’s Four Days In July (in fact the score for Still Life reminded me at times of the soundtrack to Mike Leigh’s Naked, composed by Andrew Dickson and another one of my favourite film soundtracks).

The soundtrack for Still Life is available to download from iTunes here:

Dark Ambient Space Music Through The Ergosphere Promo Trailer

Dark Ambient Space Music: Through The Ergosphere by Simon Wilkinson

New promo video clip for my dark atmospheric ambient space music Through The Ergosphere. The track is a dark and slowly evolving seven minute atmospheric ambient soundscape set to a film of ethereal dark space visuals and other worldly imagery from the European Space Agency Hubble Telescope project.

Quietly dramatic, the music is ideal textural underscore for films and documentaries or simply for fans of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001, Brian Eno’s ambient music, Biosphere, Stars Of The Lid and other similar ambient artists and drones. Put it on headphones and drift away to dark and atmospheric sci-fi landscapes.

New Time Lapse Video Featuring My Music Outpost 31

Night Motion Timelapse: Outer Banks

After my previous music work on Randy Halverson‘s time lapse videos (which featured my licensed music track Scorpio and the custom-written ambient orchestral piece Exodus), here’s another stunning time lapse video from a different filmmaker, this time featuring my track Outpost 31.

The filmmaker here is Daniel Lowe of Daniel Dragon Films (www.danieldragonfilms.com) and the film is a beautiful piece called Night Motion Timelapse: Outer Banks. Full details along with features on the making of the film can be found on Daniel’s Vimeo page.

Outpost 31 by Simon WilkinsonOutpost 31 is a dark and epic atmospheric instrumental track featuring strings, electronica, drum breaks and percussive electronics.

The music has an epic, atmospheric, icy winter feel with a sense of impending danger or survival that would work well for geographic, nature or history TV trailers.

Tempest

Tempest by Simon Wilkinson

Tempest is a dramatic orchestral instrumental track available to license for use in your films, videos, trailers and promotional material. The music features dark sweeping orchestral strings, epic brass, subtle choir and percussion. A thunderous but stately track with the atmosphere of an orchestral film soundtrack that builds and drops at various points to create an epic sense of danger and excitement.

The music is particularly suitable for triumphant battle scenes, films, sports trailers, YouTube videos or commercials that need intense dramatic orchestral action music.

Also ideal for dramatic time lapse films, war film scenes and dangerous exciting and thrilling chase scenes.

As heard in the stunning Dakotalapse time lapse film Tempest Milky Way by photographer Randy Halverson (see video right).

License Tempest for use in your own trailers and YouTube videos by selecting from the licensing options above. Whichever option you select, you’ll receive 2 versions of the track: one with thunder and weather sound effects included and one without so you can choose which version you prefer.

Arrow Of Time – Milky Way Time Lapse Collection By Harley Grady

Arrow Of Time - Milky Way Time Lapse Collection

Can’t believe I don’t seem to have posted about this video here before but perhaps it just slipped through the cracks at a busy time when it was released. It’s a gorgeous Milky Way time lapse video from photographer and filmmaker Harley Grady that features my music track Shadowland.

“This video is a collection of Milky Way time lapse videos that I have shot from 2010-2013. It has been really fun doing so, and I decided to put all of my footage together in one long video to represent what I have done so far.”

Harley Grady

It’s a really beautiful video with some lovely star trails and astrophotography time lapse and I think it fits together with the music perfectly. You can see more of Harley’s work and license his footage from the following links:
